SANTA MONICA – Rivalries, competitive shots and a few bumps and bruises is what soccer is all about, and Barcelona and Real Madrid were as competitive as it gets. Barcelona and Madrid drew 2-2 Sunday afternoon.
The game was quiet prior to any goals being scored, but an early goal from both sides sent the game spiraling. The two teams collected a total of 28 fouls on the night — 20 of which belonged to Madrid — and eight yellow cards — five just within the first half — with one red. The only red card of the match came in the third minute of added stoppage time in the first half when Sergi Roberto punched a player in the face during the game.
Following half time, the teams took a cool calm demeanor playing the beautiful game clean and gradually. In the 52nd minute, Barcelona finally founds its opening as Lionel Messi maneuvered to the top of the box and booted one in, stealing the lead back for Barcelona. The remained quiet again until the 72nd minute when Gareth Bale pounded in the equalizer for Madrid.
Between the two teams, they collected three more yellow cards before the end of stoppage time.
