Wednesday marks the beginning of the second Shebelieves Cup where the most elite players in the world will compete for the championship title of what is becoming one of the most prestigious events in women’s soccer.
The United States has their work cut out as the USWNT takes on three of the top five teams in the world: Germany, England, and France.
The USA’s 23-woman roster has been set by coach Jill Ellis and will include captain Carli Lloyd, 2016 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year Tobin Heath, star player Alex Morgan who scored what has been known as the best goal of 2016 in the first SheBelieves Cup, and Becky Sauerbrunn.
The roster also includes six SheBelieves newcomers including three players who are currently uncapped.
The tournament will take place over seven days. It kicks off on March 1 in New Jersey where England will face France in the opening match followed by the United States playing on home turf against number 2 ranked Germany.
With each team of such a high caliber this year has promise to be just as tight of a tournament as last year where every game was determined by only a one goal difference. In the end USA edged out Germany and won it all.
