SANTA MONICA — They’re back; the Panini Prizm World Cup Soccer Trading Cards have returned for the 2018 Fifa World Cup.
The cards were released for the first time in 2014 and did so well the company is returning for a sophomore year. Panini Prizm will be releasing a hobby box set which will include one autograph or short-printed insert.
The base set will consist of 300 cards which will feature feature various players from across the tournament, covering all 32 teams. Each card will have a limited option starting with silver, hyper, green and white wave, purple and gold wave and blue appearing as the most common to black representing the rarest card. The boxes will contain an average of 16 Prizm Parallels.
Fans can get excited over the magnitude of variety this year’s boxes will present. From the usual autographed and insert cards to unique dual and quad signatures, a lot of surprises and collectible cards await soccer fans. However, what makes this year different from any other is the introduction of Iceland to the tournament.
Iceland’s first time qualification into the world cup will bring a rarity to even the most common cards that won’t be repeated in a box set. While it’s inevitable the New Era cards which feature the rookies of the world cup will be some of the most valuable, the Icelandic teams first appearance on the cards will only increase in value as they progress in the tournament.
The boxes are open for pre-order and will be released for delivery on April 25th to those who pre-ordered. You can see the full checklist for the collection here.
