SANTA MONICA – Fanendo Adi, leading goal scorer and forward for the Portland Timbers, was voted MLS Player of the Week for the fourth time by the North American Soccer Reporters. On Saturday, he scored 2 goals and helped the now number two ranked Portland Timbers to a decisive 2-0 victory at home over number four ranked FC Dallas.
After a quiet beginning of the match, Adi really got the ball rolling in minute 32. After receiving a pass from Sebastian Blanco, he outran a defender, and slid the ball past the goalie into the back corner of the net. This put the Timbers up 1-0, a score that remained for the rest of the half. The Timbers continued to shut FC Dallas out and, in minute 72, Adi was back at it again. This time, Dairon Asprilla crossed the ball in front of the goal. Adi received it, faked out the goalkeeper, who dived to one side, and then easily kicked the ball into to the net. The final score of the game was 2-0.
Adi is currently tied with David Villa and Dominic Dwyer for the second most goals scored in the MLS.
Next up, The Portland Timbers will play the Seattle Sounders today at 7:30 in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup. Then, they will take on Colorado on Saturday at 6:30.
