SANTA MONICA – After a tough 2-1 loss to Sporting KC on Saturday, the LA Galaxy have a busy week ahead where they are looking to get back on track with two wins. Next Saturday, they will face the San Jose Earthquakes, but first, they have their sights set on beating Republic FC in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The LA Galaxy have played in the U.S. open Cup since 1999, winning the tournament twice in 2001 and 2005. The winner of the match will advance to the quarterfinals and play the winner of the Seattle Sounders vs. San Jose Earthquakes match. The LA Galaxy, who have won 9 of their past 10 games have been on quite the streak, but they will have to conserve some of their energy. This is the third week in a row the Galaxy has had multiple matches in a single week. Additionally, Robbie Rogers, Sebastian Lletget, Baggio Husidic and Brian Rowe are all out on injury.
Defender Dace Romney told lagalaxy.com, “we had three days between the Open Cup game so it’ll be a little bit easier and you only have 18 healthy bodies. It’s no good,” he said according to LAgalaxy.com. “We’re going to play a lot of guys that we just played [Saturday] and we’re going to keep playing them [against San Jose].”
First, the LA Galaxy will take on Republic FC on Wednesday at 7:30, and then they will face the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday at 7:30.
