After going 7 matches without a win, the Rapids went into Saturday’s game with an intensity and dominated the San Jose Earthquakes, beating them 3-0.
Although the beginning of the game was a little slow, Shkelzen Gashi really kicked things off in the 29th minute when he scored the first goal of the game for the Rapids. However, one goal just wasn’t enough, and just 6 minutes later the Rapids were back at it again. This time, it was Dominique Badji who put the ball in the net. After that, the rest of the first half was scoreless, constituting of both teams fighting for the ball, and unsucessfully trying to score.
Once the second half began, both teams were fighting hard. It was Shkelzen Gashi, however, who scored, once again, putting the Rapids up 3-0. Unfortunately for the Earthquakes, that was the last goal of the game.
Despite the big loss, San Jose Earthquakes head coach, Dominic Kinnear, commended his team for not giving up. “The second half was a much better half. We were getting closer to goal. They are sitting back on a 2-0 lead but I don’t think we gave up – I would be shocked if they did. This is a great group of guys,” he said in a press release.
Next, the Earthquakes will take on Orlando City SC on Wednesday at 7:15, while the Rapids will play Chicago on Wednesday at 5:30.
