North Carolina Courage defeat the Boston Breakers on Saturday

SANTA MONICA – After a tough 3-1 loss to North Carolina Courage last week, the Boston Breakers fought hard when they played them again on Saturday.  The Breakers, however, still came up short and North Carolina beat them 1-0.

After an almost entirely scoreless first half, North Carolina changed that in the last minute and got on the board.  In minute 44, Sam Mewis passed the ball to Hatch who put it in the back of the net, scoring what would be the game winning goal and giving the Courage a 1-0 lead.

Despite playing well and fending off the Courage’s advances for the majority of the match, that one goal, that one mistake, lost the Breakers the whole game.

“I thought we defended well (except) for one moment where we stepped out, and they exploited that,” said the Breakers head coach Matt Beard in a press release. “I felt in the second half we were OK. We cracked some good chances, but we just didn’t capitalize on them. We didn’t really allow them many opportunities.”

And get some good chances they did.  The Breakers did keep fighting hard throughout the second half, getting off 11 shots on goal.  However, only three of those were on target, and despite their effort, Boston proved unable to get that goal.

Next the Breakers will face Houston Dash on Wednesday at 6:00 and first place North Carolina Courage will take on third place Sky Blue FC on Saturday at 12:30.

Hatch scored the only goal of the match on Saturday and led North Carolina Courage to a win.
