In their NWSL season opener, Seattle Reign FC tied Sky Blue FC on Saturday. They were the only team in the league to tie, with a final score of 1-1.

Right out of the gate both teams brought it, only narrowly missing chance after chance that they had.  Despite their efforts, the match was still scoreless as the first half came to a close.

It wasn’t until the 56th minute when Megan Rapinoe scored on a penalty kick, that Reign FC was on the board, 1-0.  However, they didn’t hold that lead for long.  Just 8 minutes later, Sky FC responded with a penalty kick goal of their own.  Sarah Killion put the ball in the net and the game was tied 1-1.

Despite some solid chances in the last few minutes the game, no more goals were scored and both teams walked away with a point.

Seattle Reign FC head coach and general manager Laura Harvey was pleased with the level of determination they showed, feeling that, “last year we could’ve lost that game for sure,” she said in a press release. “We said before the game we have to have grit and determination and a mentality of proving the critics wrong because everyone’s written us off, and I think tonight we showed we have that.”

Next, Reign FC will play Houston Dash on April 22nd at 7:00, and Sky Blue FC will take on the Boston Breakers on April 23rd at 1:00.
